CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Kent State University student died in a hit-and-run crash while he rode a scooter in Franklin Township, State Highway Patrol said.

Colin Vinh Pho, 22, of Kent died in the incident that happened about 9:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Summit Street near Ohio 261, highway patrol said.

Pho, who was on an electric scooter, was traveling east on Summit Street when he got struck from the back by a vehicle, highway patrol said.

The vehicle continued east and did not stop at the scene.

Kent firefighters took Pho to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for treatment where he was then taken by helicopter to University Hospitals Main Campus in Cleveland. He was later pronounced dead, highway patrol said.

No arrests have been made, and the crash remains under investigation.

The hit-and-run vehicle is possibly a white, silver, or light-colored 2006 to 2010 model Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, or Chrysler 300 that is missing its driver’s side mirror, highway patrol said.

The vehicle may have damage to the left front area and its windshield.

The Kent State University community is “deeply saddened” by Pho’s death, according to a statement from the university.

The school said that Pho was a junior majoring in computer science with a concentration in game programming. He received his associate of science degree from Kent State in May and was registered for fall classes to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

“The Kent State community sends its thoughts and prayers to Colin’s family, friends and all who knew and loved him,” the university’s statement said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Ravenna Highway Patrol Post at 330-297-1441.
