The global chip shortage has stopped production of 3 Sony cameras, including A6400 and A7 II, and accessories

Sony is the latest victim of a global chip shortage that currently affects multiple industries, especially Sony products, including the lack of access to the PlayStation 5 console-and now three different camera models.

Sony announced that orders for Sony A6100, Sony 6400, and Sony A7 II will be suspended due to delays in parts procurement. For those hoping to catch these popular institutions in Black Friday camera deals, this couldn't be worse.

Other affected products include Sony ECM-B1M shotgun microphone and Sony PXW-Z190 professional video camera. The previously suspended products in the new update list are the Handycam HDR-CX680 digital video camera and the VCT-P300 tripod and VCT-MP1 multipod that were suspended earlier this year.

"Currently, as far as digital imaging products are concerned, part procurement has been delayed due to the global semiconductor shortage," Sony said (via a post on Sony Alpha Rumors).

"Therefore, after November 19, 2021, we will suspend accepting orders from dealers and customers for certain models with tight supply in the Sony store... For the inconvenience caused to our customers, we are deeply Apologies."

Nevertheless, Sony is not the only camera manufacturer with product supply issues. Recently we have seen a shortage of Canon EOS R3 inventory, Fujifilm apologized for the delay of Fujifilm 33mm f/1.4, Lao Frog postponed the release of its Argus 35mm f/0.95 lens, Ricoh GR III and GR IIIX, and there are reports that Leica M11 will be postponed to 2022.

In order to alleviate these supply problems, Sony has established a partnership with Taiwanese manufacturing company TSMC to produce more chips in response to global chip shortages (according to Nikkei News). The construction of the plant will begin sometime in 2022, and production is not expected to start until 2024.
